Special Career Performances: Winning the concerto competition at PLU to perform the Ibert Concerto for Flute with our college orchestra; and recently, performing in a lobby concert at Benaroya with my son and Lady and Sir James Galway!
Ensemble work: www.zipcon.net/soundsofserendipity Sounds of Serendipity is my latest venture into chamber music – which I thoroughly enjoy!

Occupation / interests: Administrative Assistant for “Music of Remembrance” www.musicofremembrance.org ; private flute instructor at Music Works NW and Washington Academy of Performing Arts. When given the time (and financial resources!) – I enjoy traveling anywhere and everywhere!

Memories: I had planned to continue my music studies at the University of North Texas, and earn a Master’s Degree in Flute Performance. But life had other plans, it seems, for I developed severe nerve and muscle problems in my right arm/hand during my final semester at PLU. Our Wind Ensemble toured Scandinavia for 3 weeks following graduation, and while on tour, I was notified that I was offered a job interview (which I hadn’t even applied for!) Upon returning home, and interviewing with the Central Kitsap School District, I decided that fate must be intervening and pointing out a path for me as a music educator. For the next decade, I thoroughly enjoyed teaching students how to play all the band and orchestral instruments, and found my teaching experience to be very rewarding. However, my soul longed to play my flute! When my hand/arm condition deteriorated to the point where I could no longer even hold a pen to sign my name – I decided drastic action was needed, and sought out surgical options. Within months of surgery, I was enjoying playing again, bought a new piccolo to celebrate, and auditioned for the SPO. I am thrilled to be performing again – and teaching! And though it’s taken quite a few years to attain the goals I set for myself in the 1990’s (or at least a few of them!) – I feel very fortunate and honored to be able to have the opportunity to make music again, and share it with students and audiences, alike.

Additional instruments: I started playing organ when I was six years old.

As a music education student, I had to learn basic performance techniques on all the band and orchestral instruments. There was a time when I could play in any section in a band, comfortably – but don’t ask me to play bassoon now!
