| Memories: |
At age six, I knew I wanted to play the violin. I went out into our woodshed and found a piece of wood just the right size for a violin. I used strong, white grocery twine for the strings and laced it across a small piece of wood that I placed as a bridge. I used a stick for my bow. My uncle later gave me a half size violin, and I learned to play it myself. I joined the school orchestra. I carried my violin in a flour sack, as we couldn't afford a case. |

| First memory of classical music: |
At a young age, I heard Yehudi Menuhin play and I knew I liked what I heard. |
