By profession, a molecular biologist who has worked for a number of not-for profit science research institutions as well as small biotech/pharmaceutical companies in the area. She currently works as a Senior Scientist at Ameritek USA in Mill Creek, WA producing recombinant antigens for infectious disease diagnostics. Anne started playing the French Horn at the age of 12 and has performed in a variety of concert bands, brass choirs, small ensembles and orchestras ever since. She also plays banjo and guitar and has performed at NW Folklife and other venues with the groups: Woodside, Old Growth and the Skyland String Band. Besides music, Anne enjoys Scottish Country dancing, painting and a plethora of outdoor activities. | Memories: |
Once in a high school band concert (many, many moons ago, Im afraid), it turned out that the French Horn section was parked right next to the percussion section (which is often the case). I inadvertently rested my mute on the rim of the bass drum. At a key moment in a rousing Sousa march, the bass drummer gave his instrument an almighty wallop and my mute sailed like a missile through the air and into the trombone section. I sheepishly recovered it after the concert and noticing it was cracked around the periphery, taped it up in a hexagon pattern with duct tape (I replaced that mute just last year!) |
